“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” (Psalm 37:25, NIV)

David saw in his history the total faithfulness of God, both to him — and to his offspring. God may sometimes display His faithfulness to us “because of”; and God may sometimes display His faithfulness to us “in spite of,” but God is always faithful.

He cares for us. He seeks our highest good, even through trial or in tears. He gives each of us reasons to love Him and to trust Him that are as countless as they are compelling.

Each of us has lived long enough to have made “history” with God. When you look back on your particular, personal, history; what is it you see? What is your testimony?  – Luther

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13, NIV)

“Temptation” is any invitation to abandon God’s will. In this world, temptation is a common experience. However, escaping temptation is expected to be the Christian disciple’s common response.

The bible tells us that God will not allow a temptation greater than we can bear. In every temptation — whether we are facing it for the first time or for the 50th time — God has provided us an exit.

When you are tempted, look for the exit — then take it!  – Luther

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'” (Hebrews 13:5, NIV)

The thought of Oswald Chambers on the latter half of this scripture is particularly appropriate to consider when we are in the routines of daily living.

Says Chambers: “Sometimes it is not difficulty that makes me think God will forsake me, but drudgery. There is no Hill Difficulty to climb, no vision given, nothing wonderful or beautiful, just the commonplace day in and day out – can I hear God’s say-so in these things?”

The truth of life is that most of the days of our lives will not be spent in the valley of difficulty or frustration; nor on the mountaintop of excitement and personal achievement — but on the plains of our routines.

The reality is that if we can hear and obey God in the mundane places, where our senses are blunted by the routine of living; we will certainly hear Him when our senses are most attuned to Him in the valley or on the pinnacle.

Use the long, level, boring, spaces in your life to cultivate your relationship with our heavenly Father.  – Luther
