“Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.” (Psalm 107:43, NIV)

The verses preceding today’s scripture are a recollection of the many gracious deeds of the Lord toward His “redeemed” ones.

It is worth noting that the list is both personal and corporate; as recent as today and as distant as long ago; both dramatic and mundane.

We need not personally experience every gracious deed of the Lord God in order to add our “amen.” The testimony of all of the saints of God is also our testimony when we identify with our heavenly Father’s purposes, and affirm in our living our heavenly Father’s will.

Heeding the wisdom of the Lord, and pondering all of His loving deeds will keep your relationship fresh, and your vision clear.  – Luther

“Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it. (Ecclesiastes 7:12, NIV)

While many in this world pursue wealth because of its apparent security, Ecclesiastes reminds us that — compared to wisdom — money is an inferior shelter.

Money cannot add years to our life, but wisdom will give life to our years. Money cannot reveal the secrets of life; but if a persons acquires wisdom, life’s secrets are revealed.

To live according to God’s wisdom is to have all of the things that money can’t buy.  – Luther

Reminder: “Daily Encouragement” will be on break tomorrow (as it is each Sunday).  Have a great day of rest, relaxation, and worship.  Lord willing, see you again on Monday!

“There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.” (Proverbs 16:25, NLT)

“It seemed like a good idea at the time.”

How many times have we heard (or even spoken) those words?

Maybe we didn’t know any better. Or, maybe we knew the possible consequences of the short-cut we had chosen, but proceeded anyway thinking that no one would notice — or care.

Proverbs tells us that some decisions — even apparent “sure-fire” decisions — lead to death.  Death comes to childhood dreams because of adolescent indiscretions.  Death overtakes the prospects of a bright career because of poor choices during the young worker’s “salad days.” One dies spiritually when he or she trades a season of prosperity for an eternity of poverty.

There, however, is wisdom on this path: Obedience to God’s word leads to life.  – Luther
