“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” (Proverbs 31:8, NIV)

Are you and I channels, or are we reservoirs?

Reservoirs are designed to take-in and hold.  Channels give as they receive. God expects us to be the latter.

Today’s scripture reminds us of our responsibility to expend the “capital” we’ve received (whether it be time, talent, or treasure) for the benefit of others — particularly those who are destitute or disenfranchised. God blesses us in order that we might bless in His name those who have not.

“Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise.” (Proverbs 13:10, NLT)

Taking advice — particularly when it differs from our preferred course of action — is difficult. Can you recall any time when you did take inconvenient advice to heart?  Do you remember how the mere act of heeding that advice saved you a heap of trouble and conflict?

Perhaps the hardest advice to swallow is “unsolicited advice.”  However, even in such cases, consider the heart of the source. Someone who has your best interests at heart will not only give you their best advice, but will personally stand with you in their counsel.

Wise up!  Don’t let your pride get in the way of a saving word.  – Luther

“He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.” (Proverbs 2:7, NLT)

Have you ever taken a short-cut only to discover — late — that your decision will cost you more time, more money, and more energy than the longer way ’round would have?

Have you ever thought that doing the right thing might expose you to less scrupulous people that would take advantage of you or of the situation?

The scriptures tell us that the path of honesty is the correct path — always; and that God will protect all persons of integrity.

Today, make honesty and integrity in every circumstance your goal!  – Luther
