“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.  And they cried out in a loud voice: ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.’” (Revelation 7: 9-10, NIV)

Our society seems to become more fractured with each passing week.  With divisions along lines of race, sex, religion, political affiliation, social standing, national origin — and others — it would seem that there is possibility for a common ground on which to seek unity in the midst of our diversity.

In today’s reading, we see a unity that recognizes diversity.  We see a unity that transcends national origin, race, color, and language.  The source of this transcendent unity is our God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  As our Creator, God loves us all and desires that all of us accept His offer of salvation through the sacrifice of the Lamb that atones for our sin.

Do we love those who are not like us as God loves those who are not like us?  – Luther

“See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are.  For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.”  (1 John 3:1, NASB)

The scriptures tell us that a pupil is not above his or her teacher.  If the teacher suffers the slings and arrows of ignorant people, the pupil should expect nothing less.

Jesus is God in human flesh, blood, and bone.  He came because God loved the world; but the world did not return His love.  The world preferred its ways to God’s ways.  The world preferred its gods to the one true, living, God.

The evidence of God’s love is the gift to us of His own name.  As His children, we are His heirs; and as His heirs, all that came to Jesus has also been set-aside for you and me.

With this in mind, always live a life worthy of the Name you’ve been given.  Our heavenly Father’s good name may not always be honored on this earth, but the mere whisper of it anywhere in the universe makes available to us every blessing and gift from heaven!  – Luther

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”  (1 Peter 5:7, NIV)

There was anxiety in Peter’s time.  War, disease, violence, political maneuvering, and the challenges of making a living created “Maalox moments” for everyone.

We also live in anxious times.  What is it that is causing you anxious moments, the loss of sleep, or an unsettled mind?

Then, as now, God invites you to “cast” (e. g. throw, discard, pitch) your anxieties on Him. He does not desire that you be anxious — not even for a moment.  Why?  Because He cares for you.  – Luther
