Author Archives: Daily Encouragement

“The first thing I want you to do is pray.  Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know.  Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation.  This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.”  (1 Timothy 2:1-3, The Message)

As disciples of Jesus, we are we instructed to stay engaged as persons devoted to prayer — at all times and for all people.

Do not be discouraged because it seems that a prayer is too small to make any difference.  Do not be discouraged because it seems that a prayer is too private to be heard.  Great floods begin with raindrops; and the One who hears our prayer sustains the universe.

Pray first.  Pray often.  Pray for everyone.  – Luther

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22, NIV)

Information. Inspiration. Perspiration.

Information is knowledge. God presents every person with the information that leads to life and peace.

Inspiration is the desire to act on that information. It is the bright light of revelation. It is the “I get it” moment. The devil attacks at the moment of inspiration to delay our engagement, because delay brings doubts; and doubts always conspire against truth and reality.

Perspiration is the work of taking information — fueled by inspiration — to reality. Information and inspiration without perspiration is akin to having a construction blueprint and all building materials at hand, but never breaking ground. Nothing of either temporal or eternal value is established or sustained without perspiration.

Get informed. Get motivated. Get to work.  – Luther

“And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.”  (2 Thessalonians 3:13, NIV)

Being on the side of the angels would be so much easier if others appreciated our good works, but good deeds often go either unrecognized, unrewarded or — worst of all — punished.

Paul reminds us to stoke the desire to do the right thing, the right way, at the right time, to all people (especially when we’re rewarded with a kick in the pants instead of a pat on the back).

Never forget that God sees everything.  He will reward you for the good you’re doing (even if others do not), so stay on the job!  – Luther
